I have been having real problems, for no apparent reason with Outlook 2007 suddenly not loading under Windows XP Pro SP3.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, repairing Office 2007, using onboard and online diagnostics but to no avail.
The problem was quite simple … I clicked on the Outlook icon on desktop or on the task bar and the programme started to open. As soon as the banner confirmed that I was loading Outlook 2007, along with the ubiquitous egg timer, everything froze … for as long as I left it, until I used the Ctrl+Alt+Del to stop it from running.
I had noticed that the computer was occasionally a bit slower than it had been but virus scanning (using BitDefender 2008 and SpyHunter 3) of the whole system showed no problems (and diagnostics showed that apparently all the hardware was working fine). However, I was having problems in Windows Explorer when I tried using the ‘Search’ facility; the programme would frequently freeze, and have to be rescued once again using Ctrl+Alt+Del. I had noticed a few times on shut down that a banner told me that WindowsSearch.exe (I think) was failing to respond.
So today, with some trepidation, I decided that I would uninstall Windows Desktop Search (my version was 3.01) to see if that would help. I did, and suddenly everything works fine, and runs more quickly.
I know this was a pretty risky step as I could, in theory at least, have messed-up a whole lot of other programmes dependent upon Desktop Search, but to date that is not the case.
I offer this as help in the desert of Outlook 2007 loading practical advice for non-computer-geeks. I’m sure it won’t work in all cases (especially if you don’t have Windows Desktop Search on your system!!), in fact it may only work in a few, but I hope it is helpful.
As with all hardware and software problems, you are best to take this information to an individual or forum which can give you definitive help on how to do things safely … and whether it will help you at all.
PS. I should mention that I installed Windows Search 4.0 from the Microsoft website and eveything still works fine (and fast). For download use this link
Until next time …
