We Need More Dreamers

I have recently been introduced to the music of Jack Savoretti in the shape his ‘Between the Minds’ CD, especially his haunting chorus Whatever happened to the dreamers?   He sings of the dreams lost, the decline of true visionaries … and the hole that leaves in our world.

For many of us, our dreaming was snuffed-out at school or in education … we were told ‘Stop dreaming boy!’, ‘If you don’t stop dreaming and get on with your work you’ll be no-one; get nowhere!’, ‘Get real!’, ‘What good is it if I can’t touch it?’, and ‘In your dreams!’

Thankfully, more recent discoveries show the important of dreaming in our creativity … and it also shows the paucity and severe crisis in business and world because the creatives just aren’t there any longer. Intelligence isn’t just about answering questions that are posed … sometime it’s about looking beyond those questions to the root of the problem, making connections that weren’t otherwise there, being creative, dreaming a little, from which the true life-changing solutions arise.

Suppressing dreams is not only fatal to our own development and fulfilment, it is also death to our business, society and world as a whole.

The great news is that there is evidence of a resurrection of the dreamers!

I often wonder what would have happened if I’d followed my inclinations to dream. What would have been the impact on me, my family, my friends, my business, my self-perception, my insecurity .. my life?

Never give-up dreaming.

Take time to dream.

Enjoy dreaming.

Dream against the odds …

… and bring about change.

About waywood

Hi & Welcome to my thoughts. I share subjects that are important to me. As you’ll notice, these subjects can be quite broad & varied. I like variety; I like breadth & I like a challenge. I am passionate about helping others overcome their fears, grow in confidence & succeed. Although many people would label me as an achiever, I have battled low confidence, low self-esteem & a couple of nasty, long periods depression over the years. I can’t say, “I know how you feel” but I can hopefully empathise & offer some of the things that are helping me to turn my life around. Please feel free to comment, share & enjoy. Take care, best wishes & keep well Stuart

    Ah! I couldn’t agree more…
A friend lent me his CD and I was stopped in my tracks.
Imagine my delight on being able to go see him perform in Portsmouth a few days later. The little man punched a hole in our psyches with his utterly captivating strumming, humming and heavenly lyrics.

His self-effacing nature was charming – but he promises to be one of the worlds finest if he continues to pour out such poignant and heartfelt songs. Hope the industry doesn’t spoil him.

Please dont give up on your dreaming… just because you weren’t able to folow your inclinaion back then, it doesn’t mean you cant make up for lost time! Dreaming is the reality. Reality is the dream(or nightmare!).

    Spread the word.

    Golden rays,

    Hi Griffelle

Thanks for your reply which is very encouraging. You are very fortunate to have seen Jack Savoretti in concert. Is he still touring?

Rest assured I’m a dreamer by nature (as many of my past teachers will tell you!) so there is little chance of giving up at this stage. I need to do a bit of super dreaming as I leap out into my new business venture!

    Anyway, take care.

    Best wishes

    Stuart

Jack Savoretti’s debut album made my TOP ALBUM of 2007. The singer, songwriter and amazing guitarist oozes talent from every aspect, the songs on the debut album ‘Between The Minds’ are some of the most melodic, catchy songs for a long time. Savoretti on stage has a Dylanesque about him along with a uniqueness. If you love great music then just listen to the album and you’ll find yourself hooked. Personal favourites Dreamers, Dr.Frankenstein, Chemical Courage, No One’s Aware to name a few. Talent always wins and I hope for the British Music that Jack Savoretti will continue performing live and look forward to more amazing songs in the near future, as with the artist such as David Gray, it took a few albums down the line before the rewarded and deserved success and recognition arrived. At the moment Jack Savoretti is Britains best kept secret, my advice is, spread the word, check-out the artist JACK SAVORETTI.10/10 with STARS on!
